Warens, Louise-Éleonore de la Tour du Pil, baroness de

   aristocrat, literary patron
   Born in Vevey, Vaud, Switzerland, Louise Éleonore de la Tour du Pil, baroness de Warens welcomed and took in the young jean-jacques rousseau at her home in Chaumettes, where the philosopher stayed with her from 1728 to 1742. A great influence on, and supporter of, that writer and thinker, Mme Waren and her relationship with Rousseau are described in Books i to Vi of his Confessions.
